Check Out This Store

I’m adding The Abaya Souq to the shopping links. They are in Dubai but they have worldwide shipping. Nice looking abayas. I am not an affiliate but I do believe in supporting our sisters any way that I can!

Collections and Stories of American Muslims

This is an interesting site. It has bits and pieces of information about slaves who were from different Muslim countries and I think it is an excellent resource for supplementing American history/geography if you are teaching it. Some of them were Imams while living on the plantations. You can read through the 1700’s,1800’s and 1900’s among other things.

I Might Use This for Next Year

I think A Concise Children’s Encyclopedia of Islam would be good to use along with our other Islamic Studies books. I also would like to implement some biographies since her reading and writing are coming along. Marvelous Stories from the Life of Muhammad (SAWS) looks interesting (check out the sample);I found one on Salaheddin and the Basra librarian Aria Muhammad Baker– there are two books about her and one of them has an Arabic version.

We still need to use our books on different countries – I sort of got off track last year due to the pregnancy.

Better Than I Thought

See how far you can get on this word list. My daughter was able to read the grade 5 and 6 list pretty easily which means that maybe I should step it up some more. Of course, that means more work for me but it also reminds me not to go too easy on her.

I’ve been thinking about going towards the Charlotte Mason approach via an altered Ambleside Online approach. I don’t know yet. She’s doing so well but I feel as if I am not challenging her enough. My biggest fear in homeschooling has always been that I would not recognize her talents and nurture them sufficiently and at the same time be hands-on and creative without burning out or overwhelming her. Any thoughts? Has Ambleside worked for you?

I’m Giving This A Try

My husband went to one of those big warehouse sales (Everything Must Go! Lowest Prices in Town, One Weekend Only, blah, blah) and bought some lesson planner software for $3.

School Tools For Your Classroom

It looks pretty good because it has a grade keeper and two extra discs with school fonts (you can use these for handwriting practice, etc.)

The best part is that it was marked down from $116.43!

Their Price vs Our Price

It’s available used on Amazon for $2.97 US if you want one too. It’s compatible with Windows and Mac.
